Walvis Bay Diving & Salvage has reaffirmed its commitment to developing Namibia’s emerging oil and gas sector by renewing its partnership with the Youth in Oil & Gas Summit as a Diamond Partner.
Speaking at the 2026 Summit in Walvis Bay, Managing Director Erna van der Merwe highlighted the important role that local marine, diving and subsea service providers will play as Namibia moves from offshore oil discoveries towards development.
Founded in Walvis Bay in 1996, the company provides commercial diving, underwater repairs, salvage, port maintenance and support services to the fishing, maritime and offshore industries. Van der Merwe said Namibia’s energy future will increasingly depend on skilled professionals who can inspect, maintain and protect offshore infrastructure beneath the sea.
She also stressed the importance of local content, skills development and creating opportunities for young Namibians. According to Van der Merwe, the decisions made during the coming years will determine whether Namibians become active participants in the sector or remain spectators.
The company first supported the Summit in 2024 and has continued its partnership through 2025 and 2026. Van der Merwe encouraged young people to remain open to learning, change and new challenges as the industry develops.
